Week 4

So far, in my entrepreneurial class, I am becoming really inspired by the things I am learning. I suddenly have an, “I really CAN do this” attitude. It seems that everything I am learning, especially this week, is all about…why not follow your dreams? And… You can do this as long as you have integrity, grit, and determination. It’s so strange how one week you can have all these excuses why starting an adventure just isn’t for me, then after a few inspiring reads, you are on top of the world and think why NOT me.

One of the videos I watched this week was about an “Action Hero” named Sharon Mays. Sharon started a drive-thru salad bar in Austin, Texas and it has been very successful. I really liked what she said. In her words, “What is your dream? Give it life.” I’m really learning in this class that success is truly about action. Do. Start. Work. Sharon describes how her mother was telling her to put up or shut up. Quit talking about and do it. (Another action)

One of the other principles I really learned from and enjoyed in this week’s lesson material, was the video by Tom Kelley, DO WHAT YOU LOVE. I really liked the circles that he described by Jim Collins. One of the Circles was, WHAT ARE YOU GOOD AT? Another circle was, WHAT WERE YOU BORN TO DO? And finally, the last circle was, WHAT WILL PEOPLE PAY YOU TO DO? I noticed in this trinity, as Tom had drawn these circles, there was a place where all three of the circles intersected. I feel that maybe the “sweet spot.” Now, this is business by Patty, but I think If you can find that “sweet spot” amongst what you’re good at, what you were born to do, and what would people pay you to do will be the place in which you will find the most success.
